Brett Dwight Baber, Esq.

Brett Dwight Baber, Esq. is a highly respected Maine trial lawyer with nearly four decades of courtroom experience. A 1985 graduate of the University of Maine School of Law, Mr. Baber has built his career on representing individuals, families, and businesses in complex civil litigation. His practice has spanned nearly every corner of trial law, with a strong focus on personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, commercial litigation, and real estate disputes.

Currently serving in an “of counsel” role with Russell Johnson Beaupain, Mr. Baber continues to provide invaluable guidance and advocacy in litigation matters. Over the years, he has practiced at some of Maine’s most respected law firms, including:

  • Rudman Winchell – one of Bangor’s premier full-service firms.
  • The Law Office of Brett Baber – his own practice dedicated to civil litigation.
  • Lanham Blackwell & Baber – where he served as managing partner, overseeing operations while litigating high-stakes cases.

Mr. Baber is admitted to practice before all courts in the State of Maine, as well as the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the United States District Court for the District of Maine. His appellate and federal admissions reflect both the breadth and depth of his legal capabilities.

Professional Leadership and Recognition

Brett Baber has long been recognized as a leader in the Maine legal community. His colleagues elected him to serve more than a decade on the Board of Governors of the Maine State Bar Association, culminating in his selection as President in 2008. He has also held leadership roles closer to home, serving on the Board of Directors of the Penobscot County Bar Association and acting as its Treasurer (2022–2023).

Beyond advocacy, Mr. Baber is a thought leader in the legal field. For more than a decade, Mr. Baber has also served as a regular legal commentator on WVOM radio, where his insights on legal and civic issues reach listeners across much of Maine.

Community and Personal Life

Brett Baber’s commitment extends beyond the courtroom. He is deeply involved in his faith and community, serving as a member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, where he sings in the choir, serves as a cantor, and regularly acts as a reader during services. He is also an active member of the Pine Cone Council of the Knights of Columbus, where he has served in a variety of leadership roles.

Mr. Baber and his wife, Gayle E. Baber, have been married for more than 44 years and reside in Dedham, Maine. Together, they have raised four children and now enjoy time with their grandson.

Outside of law and community service, Mr. Baber enjoys an active lifestyle. He has traveled extensively with his family, visiting all 50 U.S. states. He is also an avid downhill and Nordic skier, golfer, and reader of both nonfiction and literature. In recent years, he has taken up the guitar and finds joy in playing blues, soft rock, and country rock music.
